Len King has come to the practice of fine arts quite late in life. Like so many other artists he has had a previously chequered lifestyle (he hesitates to use the word career). Currently he compartmentalises his weeks into painting in what is probably a naive style (as a guide only, think Henri Rousseau), is re-writing his fourth novel, gazes at the scenery from his office windows, travels the Australian continent, and of course maintains the property he shares with his wife. His painting style is untutored and not consciously in anyone else's style, although he did once use one of Kandinsky's more traditional works (Couple on a Horse) as a reference. So his style is mostly representational with a few twists and turns like broken brushstrokes. He finds it hard to remain slavish to sea and sky, and often throws in some undisciplined swirls and non-conformist colours. He would like to invent a completely new style which appropriates Seurat, Van Gogh and pixilation.
